Week 1 - MKTG 6101 - Guerilla Marketing

Hello everyone!
This post will be covering the content covered in Chapter 1 of Guerilla Marketing (https://www.amazon.com/Guerilla-Marketing-Inexpensive-Strategies-Business-dp-0618785914/dp/0618785914).

“Marketing is the art of getting people to change their minds - or to maintain their mindsets if they’re already inclined to do business with you.”

Marketing is an essential aspect of business because it allows the company to target specific groups and audiences in order to sell their products efficiently and strategically. Businesses today have begun shifting from a traditional marketing style to a Guerilla Marketing style.

As noted by author Conrad Levinson, here are a few ways that guerilla marketing differs from traditional marketing.

Traditional Marketing

Guerilla Marketing

  • To market properly, you must invest money.

  • If you want to invest money, you can - but don't have to if you are willing to invest time, energy, imagination, and information.

  • Geared towards big success for big companies

  • Tailored to small business companies with “big dreams” and “tiny budgets”

  • Measures performance by sales, responses to offer, hits on website, or store traffic

  • Measures performance by size of profits

  • Focuses on “me” marketing

  • Focuses on “you” marketing

As we dive into Guerilla Marketing in the following weeks, it's important to understand the differences between what is traditionally understood as marketing and guerilla marketing.
