Week 1 - MKTG 6601 - Automation

 Hello everyone!

This post will be covering the introduction to Automation and the role it plays with artificial intelligence.

Automation, as defined by Techopedia, is the creation and application of technology to produce and deliver goods and services with minimal human intervention.

You can think of automation in two broad categories: Hardware and Software.

Hardware

In today’s world, hardware presents itself in many ways. Although the media has portrayed hardware and so called “robots” in a human-like and advanced way, the reality is that hardware and robots are much less sci-fi “I, Robot” and more so manufacturing, everyday life hardware as pictured below. It is also important to note that AI is much more related to software than it is hardware.

Examples of hardware include: RAM, printers and hard disks

Software

Software consists of programs that communicate tasks to a computer through a programming code. We can think of software visually through the many examples that exist in our everyday lives. These include programs such as Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Adobe Photoshop, and Google Chrome.

Software and AI are essential to one another as AI can help make software processes and programs increase in speed and accuracy using behavior that adapts and changes to programming such as learning, reasoning, and problem solving.

Altogether, as we see advances in automation we will undoubtedly see advances in AI, and vice versa.

Until next time,
